The International Students Association at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has thanked Vice-Chancellor Professor (Mrs) Rita Akosua Dickson for intervening to resolve recent accommodation challenges.

The delegation was led by the Director of Student Affairs, Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah.
Professor Nkansah said the students had earlier raised concerns about the conditions at the international students’ hostel.
“They made an appeal regarding their accommodation and the conditions. Your intervention helped to improve the situation. They wrote a letter to say thank you, but we thought it was better to do it in person,” she said.

Pascal Muzungu, President of the International Students Association, read a letter of appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the group, thanking her for responding quickly.
“Your quick response to the issues of renovation and safety at our hostel has made a big difference. We are very grateful,” he said.
In her response, Professor Dickson said leadership meant listening and acting. She recalled that the issue arose during a Saturday meeting she had to attend at short notice.
“I remember I had to leave another engagement because I was told there was something urgent. That’s what leadership is, solving problems as they come,” she said.
She commended the students for voicing their concerns and urged them to continue giving feedback.
“There is always room for improvement. Even if we have ticked all the boxes, that room never gets full,” she said.

The Vice-Chancellor also encouraged the student leaders to keep communicating with management through the Directorate of Student Affairs.
“You don’t owe me anything for the intervention. Instead, I thank you for being proactive and responsible,” she said.
The students apologised for a delay during a recent cultural event and presented a plaque and tokens to the Vice-Chancellor.
They also reported ongoing hostel improvements, including repairs to the basketball court, air conditioners, a fixed generator and work on Wi-Fi connectivity.
“We have seen changes, and we want to assure you that your efforts are not in vain. As international students, we are not dormant. We are involved in leadership, clubs and sports, and we are proud to contribute to the university’s growth,” Pascal said.
Professor Dickson encouraged the international students to join the university’s upcoming alumni homecoming and reminded them that KNUST would always be their home.
“Once you’re part of the KNUST family, you’re always part of us. We’re proud of you, and we will continue to support you,” she said.
